    Runtastic is probably the darling of the fitness app community right now. They make beautiful and functional apps. Heartrate is one such app that lets you measure and keep a journal of your heart rate using your phone's flash.

    Beautiful and functional. This app does what it's designed for and that is to measure your heart rate. I'm only using the free version and that's more than enough for me at the moment.

    I've heard of these kind of apps, and I have heard that they are far from accurate. While I cannot say that this one is 100% accurate it certainly doesn't seem like it's very far off.

EASY TO USE
* Place and lightly hold your (index) finger against the back camera lens and flashlight
* Do not press too hard, otherwise blood circulation will be altered and the results could be
affected
* When using a smartphone or tablet without a LED flashlight, be sure to take the measurement in a well-lit area (bright daylight works best)
* Remain calm and try not to move too much during the measurement, as this can compromise measurement accuracy
* Do not measure with cold fingers when the blood circulation is poor
